Mongu District, the provincial capital of Western Province, Zambia, is situated approximately 585 km west of the nation’s capital, Lusaka. The district spans an area of 5,959.8 square kilometres. Established as a rural council following Zambia’s independence in 1964 it was latter upgraded to the status of District Council in 1980 following the establishment of the Local Government Act No. 15 of 1980.
