Born on 30th August 1982 in Mwandi village, then under Sesheke district, the Mayor for Mongu Mr. Nyambe Muyumbana, comes from a humble background. His home villages are Imwambo (Kalabo) and Ikatulamwa (Mongu).
Upon completing his junior secondary school in Mwandi, he went to Sesheke Secondary School for his senior secondary education until 1999, although he had a stint at Mauka Primary School in Choma for his grade 6. He studied Journalism and PR at Norma Jean College, Public Administration at UNZA, and a Bachelor of Laws obtained at Zambia Open University. He rose through the professional ranks from news reporter to a station manager in the media industry, before he joined Inambao and Chipanzhya Law Firm as a Legal Assistant.
His political career started in 2011 but withdrew from the MP race after the campaign manager demanded that he undergo some rituals. He unsuccessfully bid to be adopted by the current ruling party as Mayor in 2016 and 2021, despite him winning the primaries. He didn’t get discouraged due to his insatiable quest to serve the people of Mongu.
In 2022 when the then Mongu Mayor Mr Matakala Nyambe (MHSRIEP) died in a road accident, Mr. Muyumbana was among the 15 people who offered their names for adoption. This time around the ruling party picked him for the by-election and won with a resounding number of votes.
He is governing under the inspiration of President Hakainde Hichilema’s principles of transparency, courage, hard work and putting the people first. He also runs an open-door policy, thereby discouraging appointments to see him saying, “I’m in the office for the people. So they can see me whenever they want.
